The simplest (and probably the most commonly used) tool is a draft gouge. The draft gouge is often used to round a white that is mounted between the axes of the tour, to create profiles rounded and much more. In the shape of curve draft gouges come in a variety of sizes, from very large to a little delicate (like the picture on this page). The draft gouge is not a difficult learning tool to use, but you need to spend some time practicing the techniques. Watching someone who is experienced with a gouge draft may make it look easy, but you will quickly learn that it is a skill that must be mastered. Check out these tips from roughing Gouge to get a handle on how to make the most of the basic tool for Woodturning.
