I first heard tools for working wood in Brooklyn, New York by Colen Clentons tools by Joel Moskowitz
Joel's recommendation I bought a Colens squares and was deeply impressed by its craftsmanship and accuracy. I asked Joel, how I could email Colen and give him a few questions about his tools for an article.
Him via e-mail can not, Joel told me. Colen use a computer. He lives in the country and only builds its tools.
Well, that was the end of it. So, I took the Colen Clenton place at face value. I have it for years without knowing, one damn thing about the man, how it works, or if his tools were made by skillful dingoes.
This week I met Colen Clenton. Live and in the flesh. He is a down-to-Earth, fun-loving and very intense person. During a hand-tool event in Melbourne Guild of fine woodworking, we chatted about everything from "true brass" (not the 360 stuff), machine tolerances Kentucky bourbon to crazy big band saws.
And the best thing is, I have a substantial collection of his tools, some of them with special Woods, a try square to see about 24 "was long and the inner guts of its adjustable try and miter squares."
I shot a short video, knocked that shows, such as his work and be adjusted can, should they all go out of place or out of place are. As owner no idea how things work one I had his places, within the population of the place. It is far more complex and awesome than I ever believed.
To see more of Colens work, visit the tools for working wood Web site here. The photos are good but just not these tools, justice. They are perfect - no matter how closely you check it.
